Since the Foundation is registered as a public entity, the majority of directors must be at arm’s-length from CGOV Asset Management. Thus an independent board has been created. Currently two CGOV partners are also on the board of the Foundation.

 


Keith E. Walter
Chair, The CGOV Foundation
SVP and General Manager, Reinsurance Group of America

Keith is a graduate of University of Toronto (B.Sc. 1982) and Cass Business School (M.B.A. 1989). He is also an actuary, receiving his designation as a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries in 1985. He is currently SVP and General Manager of Global Accounts at Reinsurance Group of America.

Keith has had a successful career in financial services, including more than 25 years in a variety of roles with Manulife Financial and combined 7 years as a consultant and market leader with Towers Watson and Deloitte. His career has included international appointments in the U.K., Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan where he was the CFO of a local life insurance company and an active participant in the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Japan. In Canada, he has served as a Director of the Investment Counsel Association of Canada and volunteers his time with a number of charitable organizations.

Sheila Norman, CFA
President, The CGOV Foundation

Sheila joined CGOV Asset Management in 2006 and is responsible for managing portfolios for private and institutional clients. She is also a member of the CGOV Asset Management Board and Investment Committee.

Sheila has over 20 years experience in the investment industry, which includes previous employment at  McLean Budden Ltd and Sun Life Securities. Sheila earned her undergraduate degree from Queen's University in 1991 and holds the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation from the CFA Institute. She has completed the National Aboriginal Trustee Training Program through Lethbridge College and the Not-for-Profit Governance Essentials Program with the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto.

Sheila serves as President and Board Member for The CGOV Foundation.

Don Cranston, MBA
Portfolio Manager, CGOV Asset Management

Don is one of the founders of CGOV Asset Management and currently chairs the CGOV Asset Management Board.  Don is responsible for managing investment portfolios on behalf of private and institutional clients.

Don earned his undergraduate and Master of Business Administration degrees from Queen's University. Following his education at Queen's, Don worked at Andersen Consulting as a Management Consultant. Don also worked at Burns Fry Limited and Coleford Investment Management Ltd.   He has over 25 years of investment industry experience.

Don is the Past-Chairman of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada. He currently is on the Boards of The CGOV Foundation and The Friends of Fort York. He is the Chair of the Investment Committee of the Anglican Foundation of Canada, and is a member of the Senate of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry.

Adam Shapiro CPA, CA, CFP, CLU, TEP
Advisor, Guilfoyle Financial

Adam has been estate and succession planner for almost two decades. His mission is “to work with CPAs, lawyers and investment counselors to identify and provide elegant solutions to the sophisticated problems of wealthy families.”

The broadest perspective comes from experience in virtually every seat at the table - earned by practicing as a Chartered Accountant specializing in tax, succession planning and family estate planning, and through a background in international private banking. Adam's practical experience is backed up with multiple financial planning and insurance industry certifications - including the CFP (Certified Financial Planner), CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) and TEP (Trust and Estates Practitioner).

An active community fundraiser, in support of Baycrest, Adam has helped raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's and brain related disorders.

Terry Smith
President, Philanthropic.ca

Terry is the founder, President and CEO of Philanthropic.ca. The firm helps donors reduce their risk and increase the impact of their philanthropic giving.

Prior to establishing her own company, Terry worked as a public servant in the Ontario government for 24 years culminating her governmental career as Ontario’s Deputy Minister of Culture.

Terry has also established a charitable foundation called Just Socks Inc. that provides new socks to the homeless. This charity is a 100% volunteer and family operated organization and in 3 years has distributed over 100,000 pairs of new socks to over 80 charity partners.

Deborah Turnbull

Deborah Turnbull has been the Chair of the Board of the Canadian and African Business Women’s Alliance (CAABWA) since 2000.  Ms. Turnbull has worked in international development for 35 years and has undertaken hundreds of development projects in more than 60 developing countries and countries in transition.  Since 1998, Ms. Turnbull has taught a number of courses to undergraduate students enrolled in the International Development Studies program at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. She has or is on the board of a number of Canadian and International NGOs working in developing countries.
